The perfect fit: how to measure your dog for a harness
Share
Measuring your dog correctly for a Y-shaped harness is of utmost importance. Every dog has different proportions, so we ask that you measure according to our system for our harnesses . Below is a step-by-step guide on how to measure your dog.
Step 1: Neck Measurement
- Place the measuring tape around the lower part of your neck, a little lower than you normally wear your collar.
- Make sure you can fit two fingers between your dog and the leash, which allows for extra comfort
Step 2: Measuring the circumference
- Measure the circumference by wrapping the tape around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs
- the tape should be tight but not too tight; it is recommended to leave an extra centimeter
Step 3: Chest measurement
- to measure, place the tape measure on the back of the dog's head, where the top of the harness will be, pull it through the middle of the front legs and stop just behind the front legs (where you measured the circumference)
- the strap should be tight but not too tight
Step 4: Back Length Measurement
- Measure the length of your dog's back by placing the tape measure at the base of the neck (where the top of the harness will be) and extending it along the spine to where it meets the girth.
- make sure that you pull the strap along the dog's spine and that there is no space between the spine and the strap
